RFX FAQ

What is Radio Free Xangaka?
Radio Free Xangaka (AKA "RFX"is the unofficial radio station of Secret Society Wars. It is manned by listeners and players just like yourselves. It operates around the clock, all the time, even during happy hour. However, we make no promises to the sobriety level of the DJs during happy hour.

That sounds freaking awesome! How do I listen in?
Tuning into RFX is easy. Gto Planet RFX Home Page, we provides you with links to listen to the radio using Windows Media, Winamp, iTunes, or RealPlayer.

So who the hell is in charge around here?
SewerRatz is the creator/founder of RFX. He also runs the RFX website. However, most administrative duties are performed by the wonderful Station Manager and Hiring Director Toothless, and ToriForte, who is the Scheduling Manager and Production Chief. Read the next post for Tori's Introduction to Production.

How do I become an RFX DJ?

NOTE: We at RFX are currently looking only for DJs who will be able to commit to a slot on a weekly basis that we currently have open. If your schedule is not compatible with ours, I'm sorry, but you will need to wait to apply until you can fill a slot we need.

If you are interested in becoming an RFX DJ, the man you want to talk to is Toothless. Read the following first please:

Quote "galen11":

New potential DJ hires/volunteers must have reached at least the 13th degree in SSW and continue to be an active player, in order be offered the opportunity to be granted three, on-air, auditions in time slots, that need to be filled. Those will be the shifts that they will potentially be hired to DJ in. If a prospect completes the required auditions and is not hired due to more practice being necessary, they will be offered the opportunity to audition again in three weeks. If they take the opportunity the process will begin again. Once a DJ is hired they will receive their awesome DJ powers and green froggie chat status symbol thingy next to their names, displaying their 31337ness, for all lower, alien life forms to see and envy. :D

Also, please remember that those of us who DJ for RFX are committed to our positions. It is fun work, but there is some element of work involved. RFX expects its DJ's to take their position seriously, and show up on time and prepared for their shows. If this is something you have an issue with, you may not want to apply to be on RFX. We also expect all DJ's to work well with each other and with RFX Management. Bad attitudes towards RFX Staff or towards listeners will not be tolerated.

Quote "galen11":
I realize this is volunteer work, but I am committed to it and I hope you all are as well. If you do not take your volunteer work seriously, maybe RFX is not the place for you at this time in space. As well, if you are in it for your ego or to feed your narcissistic tendencies, then RFX may not be the right fit for you at this juncture.

You must create a gmail address specifically to use for RFX, preferably exactly the same as your username, or if you cannot get your username, add rfx to the end of it. RFX is currently in the process of moving all handoffs from chat pm's to gchat messages.) Also, in addition to your on-air auditions, you will be asked to make at least one general RFX station ID so we can get a feel for your production level. To find out what we're looking for and how to do it, click here or read the second post in this thread. If you already know how to make bumps, you can skip the production steps/goldwave walkthrough and just look for the section entitled For Prospective DJ's.

If you are still interested in becoming a DJ, please copy and fill out the following and send it in smail format or e-mail to Toothless.

1. What is your RFX gmail address?

2. When would you be available to DJ (Give times as exact as possible, and do not forget to specify what time zone you're talking about)?

3. What OS (operating system, IE Windows XP, Mac OS X, Linux, etc) are you running?

4. How much music do you have (please list in terms of space filled by music, not time filled by music... IE, "10 gigabytes" rather than "100 hours"?

5. How much free space do you have available on the computer you plan to DJ from?

6. Do you have a properly functioning microphone and headset(or easily adjustable speakers)?

7. What kind of internet (DSL, Dial-Up, etc) are you running and how fast is it?

8. What kind of music do you plan to play?

How much money do I get if I get hired as a DJ?
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Haha.
*snerk*

Not a thing. Not even pocket lint. The station is run by volunteers.

So, if you're in it for money, better get out now.

So this station belongs to Secret Society Wars, then?
No, it does not. SewerRatz started this station himself and pays the server bills. All of the DJs play SSW and the game has us welcomed us in, however, there is no official link between SSW and RFX. They are separate entities with different people in charge.

How much does it cost to run a station?
At the moment, we are running a 32Kb server with only 40 slots which costs just under $40.00 a month. As the station and game grows and we get more regular listeners we will have to upgrade.

Do you accept donations? I'd love to help out with the server costs!
RFX is now accepting donations! Go to the Home page of www.planetrfx.com - the paypal link is on the right side of the screen.

If I do donate how do I know my funds are going towards the station?
Good question. Just remember a donation is just that. Now, a good honest person will spend the money on the radio station and nothing else. Good thing SewerRatz is handling this... All donations are handled by SewerRatz and will be used to pay the server bills.

I find certain things that some DJs broadcast offensive; what can I do to make them stop?
We have no way of monitoring the age of our listeners, but we highly recommend that they be 18+. If you don't like a DJ or the content of their show, the best way to handle it is to turn them off and not listen to their show. Right now, these are the only official guidelines as far as offensive show content.

QUOTE:
Quote "galen11":

I would venture to guess it would almost be impossible to get fired...
Anyone caught swearing up a storm in a drunken rant e.g. insulting listeners and chatters on-air and in chat will be suspended for three weeks. If caught again they will be asked to separate themselves from RFX. Also, please no sex with partners on-air. Is sex with yourself ok, you may ask? You'll to use your own good judgment on that.

(Please keep in mind that these guidelines are subject to change at the discretion of the RFX Staff.)
